There’s a very interesting report in business paper City AM today about a possible tie-up between Google and Carphone Warehouse. The paper says Google’s Android-powered follow up to the Nexus One is arriving before Christmas and will be sold exclusively, avoiding the networks and direct to customers, through the CPW chain.
Here’s the juicy bit:
“The second Google-branded mobile phone will hit the UK in time for Christmas through an exclusive deal with Carphone Warehouse … The deal with Carphone represents a major rethink of Google’s sales strategy, with the Nexus One released exclusively in the UK through Vodafone”
The extremely well informed (for a financial news site) report goes on to suggest the Nexus One successor is expected to run the next version of Android, ie, the Gingerbread 3.0 or 2.3 release. It’ll be Google’s new flagship Android phone. Very, very interesting.
Nothing is mentioned about who Google is contracting to make the hardware this time around, which will be the key for us. Thanks to reader Ryu for the tip.
It’s smooth to use, the 1080p display is sharp, clear and bright, the device is extremely light and thin and therefore very pocketable and portable — much more so than other 5-inch phones we’ve used. And yet… we’re a bit unimpressed by the overall package…

Sony returns with an all-new mobile design for 2012, pairing a dual-core processor with a 720p display. It’s a lovely phone, but is it enough to end our Samsung and HTC obsession?
LG’s updated Prada phone comes with an absolutely crazy black & white theme, but is it just for fashionable suit wearers who want to make themselves look a bit more interesting?

/ October 26, 2010I don’t see why it’s that slim. I very much doubt it’ll be Motorola, SE or LG. It’s almost certainly doing to be some OEM manufacturer, Surely none of the big companies would ship a vanilla Android phone without any of their branding and bloatware all over it.
