There’s been a Skype app out for Android for a while, albeit a hobbled version that came missing some rather key features. That’s all fixed and forgotten now, thanks to new Skype for Android – which unlocks full VOIP over wi-fi calling features.
It also works over 3G in Europe. We get the best version.
The only features new Android Skype doesn’t support are video calling, voicemail, Skype’s own SMS service and file transfers. Read more about it over on Skype’s Android site and the company’s blog announcement. Here’s the small print:
- Skype is not available in the Android Market in China or Japan.
- Skype has been tested on HTC and Motorola devices with Android OS 2.1 and above. It may work on other Android phones, but we can’t guarantee full functionality or compatibility. We’re aware of some problems with the Samsung Galaxy S, and we’re looking to address these in the future.
- It’s free to use Skype in a WiFi zone. If you use Skype with a mobile data connection, operator charges may apply, so we recommend an unlimited data plan.
- In the US, you can make calls only over WiFi.
- A fair use policy applies to unlimited subscriptions.
It’s smooth to use, the 1080p display is sharp, clear and bright, the device is extremely light and thin and therefore very pocketable and portable — much more so than other 5-inch phones we’ve used. And yet… we’re a bit unimpressed by the overall package…
A relatively high-spec smartphone, with a 4.5″ display running at 480 x 854 resolution and powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, plus the Ascend G510 arrives running Android 4.1.1 — albeit potentially hindered by Huawei only sticking 512MB of RAM inside it..

I think we should just wait for now
If anyone know how we can somehow break through the blockage on 3G calling in US please speak up. Thanks
