Samsung: Galaxy S now getting FroYo update in “early November”

Oh dear. Samsung’s lovely Galaxy S gets a little less desirable when compared to the competition with the passing of every week, as the mobile maker has once again pushed back the arrival of Android 2.2 on its flagship Android phone.

You’re now looking at the “early November” if you’re waiting for your Android update for your Galaxy S in the UK, with some operator-specific builds now scheduled to arrive at the end of the month. Whoops.

Bit of a shame. You Galaxy S owners will just have to console yourselves by looking at your lovely screens for another month or so.

At least Samsung tell their users what is going on. HTC Legend froyo… silence……

    • Yep – I had to downgrade my Legends firmware, so that I could root it, so that I could install a ROM of Froyo…

      It shouldn’t be so hard…!

I really hope they alter the file system to reduce the bad lag! Also want the propper Android Calendar, or at least make theirs able to default to new items being on my google claendar and not just the phones!

  3. I’ve got Froyo via Doc’s Rom Mod on my Galaxy S and it’s excellent. Strongly recommend it as it’s easy to install.

Why that late? We in Scandinavia got Froyo on Oct 15. I am very pleased with it, but some other have reported issues, especially with the Market app. Maybe that is why Samsung is postponing the UK market?

  5. Is this the date for unbranded handsets or everyone? Will people with branded handsets have to wait yet again for the bloatware to be added?

I’m based in the UK and managed to get 2.2 with the registry hack before it got pulled.

Slight speed improvements and GPS fixed but no laggy file system fix I’m afraid!

I’m just waiting for the existing lag fix instructions/software to ‘mature’ a little before attempting it on 2.2.

You need to do a factory reset after install and then it is unbelievably fast with no sign of a lag!!!
