Google Docs editing support coming to Android

According to the Official Google Blog today, Google will soon launch mobile editing features for its collaborative Google Docs word processing tools, with Android and iPad getting both their own custom editing features over “the next few weeks”.

Here’s the relevant part of Google’s revelation:

“…today we demonstrated new mobile editing capabilities for Google Docs on the Android platform and the iPad. In the next few weeks, co-workers around the world will soon be able to co-edit files simultaneously from an even wider array of devices”

And here’s what Google Docs looks like today, when accessed through Android’s web browser:

At the moment you’re able to read Google Docs files through your Android phone’s web window, but editing is a different matter. We’ve just had a play with it, and… it is indeed pretty broken. There’s a “desktop” mode which brings up the above text editing options, but nothing works. Just thought you’d like to know. Link via Android Guys.

I hope they make a native application, that would be great for Android, Windows Phone has Office and Android could have Google Docs.

  2. Crikey, scareware over on that Android Guys site. About 2 seconds after I arrived at the site, it came up with a silly “computer may be at risk” box and started “scanning” my computer. I just shut it down but no doubt it would have started nagging me to buy some miracle cure. I thought Android Guys was a legitimate site? So I hope that was some nasty advert that sneaked under their radar, rather than them doing it themselves.

Blimey, I hope so. Funnily enough, my PC was obliterated by a trojan yesterday. Four hours spent trying to remove a rootkit.
