Google’s handed us some news on a plate again, updating its Developer Dashboard with the latest platform version breakdown of Android OS market share. The data, compiled by recording connections to the Android Market, shows that Android 2.2 use has exploded over the last month – with nearly one third of connected phones now on the newest OS update.
Android 2.1 was on 60% of Android phones last month – that’s now plummeted to 42% as FroYo hits Android phones around the world, replacing Android 2.1.

The previous set of data, which charted stats for the period ending August 2, showed Android 2.2 was only on 4.5% of handsets. That’s an amazingly rapid leap for the latest version of the OS in the space of one month.

/ September 10, 2010I’m not surprised by this news as it seems all the big android phones and networks are now starting to get the update released to them. First the Desire, then the Dell Streak. 2.2 is firmly here

/ September 11, 2010I’m glad to see 1.5 and 1.6 making up less than 30%. Plus 2.2 has caught on pretty fast thanks to HTC And Motorola with their EVO and Desire and Droid updates respectively, I reckon.
