Here’s an odd one. There’s a new version of the standalone Google Search app up on the Android Market this evening, which updates your Android search too to v1.1.1 if you install the file.
This doesn’t include Google’s new “Instant Search” search tool that’s been shown off today, instead offering a minor tweak to the layout of results – and some “performance improvements” according to the newly updated Android Market description.
Here’s new Android Google Search in action a few moments ago:
That’s pencil icon’s new, isn’t it? Clicking on that copies your search terms to the search bar, so you’re able to edit it on the fly before searching. Slightly useful. That’s really about all we can see that’s different.

/ September 9, 2010That’s my Desire, with Swiftkey keyboard. The word-predicting one. It’s learning my style very well. I’ll soon be able to create it a username for the site and have it write updates all by itself.

/ September 9, 2010I’d guess that this is just tiny tweaks as an excuse to release an app, getting ready for instant search. If they can get everyone to install an app before release then it’ll just come down as an update and speed up the adoption.
