UPDATE: Three UK now rolling out Android 2.1 for its HTC Hero

Another piece of the Android 2.1 update jigsaw has fallen into place this evening, with numerous reports from Three users popping up to tell the world that Three has started pushing out the 2.1 update for its branded HTC Hero.

Commenters on the Three Blog (and, er, EuroDroid!) are reporting success in downloading the first part of that oddly split Android 2.1 Hero update, with the equally odd set-the-phone-clock-forward-a-few-weeks trick triggering checks for the long awaited download.

At this rate, everyone’s going to be on an Android version starting with the number 2 by the end of the summer, apart from a few Samsung Galaxy users and Motorola stragglers.

UPDATE:
It looks like Three has rolled Part One and Part Two together into one single update, so this is the entire 2.1 upgrade.

Downloading now! Exciting! Is the first batch (70 megs) just the first half or is it 2.1?

*Wildfire User*, I’m sooooooooo jealous. Considering the recent release of the Wildfir, I would have expected it to ship with Froyo. I’ll just have to keep checking HTC site!

Almost dropped my phone with excitment when the System Update popup appeared (I didn’t have to jiggle the date but I was on a long drive across the country at the time, maybe that triggered the check?). Btw I think this OTA udate (a zip around 70Mb) is the whole ball of wax in one go – my firmware says 2.1 and the market/browser etc. are all new and spiffy after installing.

All pluses thus far – UI is nippier, keyboard more responsive, new pinch-to-zoom home screen feature, Google Navigation etc. splendid additions. Took its time but well worth it in the end.

  7. Yay! Put mine a month forward and accidentally cancelled the update, but then I put it forward again, message popped up. And a minute in about 30% downloaded.
