HTC updates HTC Sync – v3.0.5422 up now

HTC’s just popped out a new version of HTC Sync, which it says is compatible with the 2.1 updated HTC Hero, Legend, Wildfire, Aria and Desire. Presumably this is that earlier Wildfire update now made accessible on more handsets.

Here’s HTC’s rather fact-light description of the 3.0.5422 upgrade:

“You can use HTC Sync to synchronize Outlook contacts and calendar or Outlook Express contacts and the bookmarks of web browser between your computer and your phone. It also lets you install third-party Android applications on the phone, and bring your photos, videos, documents, songs, and playlists to your phone.”

New HTC Sync is available from the UK HTC Support site and other regional Euro HTC options. We’re not exactly keen users of HTC Sync. It never seems to… work. At all.

Or if you don’t want to go though the rigmoral of finding out your device serial number to download it:

Don’t worry about the Wildfire but in the URL, it offered me this on my HTC Legend…

It’s also WAY better than the old Sync, and it actually works with Windows 7, not just claims to work with Windows7 like before….

For the users downloading from the Dutch HTC site you will get this URL:

And will get the error that the page cannot be found. Just remove the %20 at the end to start the download. ( this is due to HTC Benelux adding a space to the end of their download links :D Epic Fail )

I downloaded and installed HTC Sync 3.0.5422 for my HTC Desire and i’m not impressed.

    1) You have to prise the back off your handset to get the serial number to be able to download it.
    2) Its a big download and so takes quite some time to get it (install requires a reboot)
    3) The install does not appear to remove the previous version of HTC Sync thereby leaving you with two installed versions.
    4) The default sync is to synchronise everything (photos, music, videos, calendar, contacts). If you arent watching carefully you could end up copying a lot of uncessary files to/from your phone/PC before you realise how to switch off syncing of everything.
    5) During syncing it seems to cause my laptop to rise to 100% CPU
    6) It consumes a significant amount of memory
    7) It does not seem to provide a report of what contacts/events had been added/deleted (this was useful functionality in the old version of HTC Sync which I would like back!)

No you don’t… go settings > about phone > Phone Identity there you will find your desire serial number.

Shame HTC just release 2.2 to my desire a couple of weeks ago so I cant use this… or at least doesn’t seem to be working.
