We’ve already had news of a future upgrade to “FroYo” for the European Motorola MILESTONE sort of confirmed by O2, but now we have OFFICIAL WORD from Motorola itself. The MILESTONE will get Android 2.2, with the tortuous task of updating a whole continent’s worth of Android phones to Android 2.2 starting from the end of the year.
Here’s the announcement from Motorola:
“We’re pleased to announce that Milestone will receive a free upgrade to Android 2.2 (FroYo) in Europe with an initial roll-out beginning at the end of this year. For other software updates please check our software update site”
Lovely. Clicking through to Motorola’s firmware update site does indeed show “Q4″ for the arrival of Android 2.2 on the MILESTONE. Which is quite nice of them:
But look – there will be no upgrade for the poor old DEXT or BACKFLIP.

/ August 22, 2010Again Motorola pplaying with grammar… towards the end of the year means, by december.. then they will tell its only by next december. Dear motorola most of your milestone customers are born hackers don’t fool them around. Anyway there is such a footprint of your services that nobody will buy Motorola products once again. Milestone has built in radio for fm and calls…. they will comeup witha bblunder again.. in reality Milestone can support hotspot and also wireless N,, it can also be updated to gingerbread android 3.0. Shameless fellows..

/ August 22, 2010And…, they have not yet started working on froyo for milestone. That is what they do by the end of december and then they will get an excuse more that millestones are out of warranty. How is the trick of the dirty motorola bich….

/ August 22, 2010Have a look at the Moto Europe Facebook page or support forum. Almost every post is a very angry one. You don’t need to be smoking anything

/ August 22, 2010Poor old Milestone users have had a hard time. I think it’s a form of post-traumatic stress.

/ September 22, 2010Ditto.
If this is how they treat their customers then there’s no way I’m going to buy any of their stuff!

/ September 4, 2010This will always be the issue with Android. The hard manufacturares will not intoduce software upgrades because they want to sell new devices. So, you will see them launching 2.2 in new hardware devices forgetting existing customers.
One copmany I still respect that has by far the best technology and customer centric: its name is Apple.
For those who are using Android devices, try one iphone and you will know what I mean.

/ September 9, 2010Well, I hope that they will be true to their words. Android applications are really cool and good thing is that you can even use it for iphones :)
