Android TweetDeck public beta test is GO

After a slightly embarrassing false start yesterday, the Android version of popular Twitter client TweetDeck has finally appeared for its promised public beta test.

Being a beta, the app is NOT available for download on the Android Market – you’ll have to head over to TweetDeck’s site and register for it, signing in via an existing (or hurriedly created) TweetDeck account and downloading the Android APK file.

Here’s a bit of TweetDeck’s announcement covering why it thinks it’s so DAMN CLEVER:

“The concept of blended columns is something new and different, but we feel that it is the way forward. Why should you have to scan across multiple columns to find out what your friends are doing? Bringing all your Twitter, Facebook, Buzz and Foursquare feeds into the same column allows you to focus more on what your friends are saying and less on where they are saying it.”

And then you’ll get to have a go on this.

Looks pretty swish. We’ll spend a bit of time with it this evening, hopefully, if we can get the wife off bloody Scramble Touch for long enough.

How’s everyone finding it? It’s swish, but worried about volume of data it’s using, and the battery-raping aspects…

Looks interesting, but the font size is far tool large… can only see about 3 tweets per screen on my Desire. Tried to find an options screen to change this, but the only thing you seem to be able to do is modify the notifications.

Also, by combining Twitter and Facebook feeds into a single feed, is this actually any different to HTC’s FriendStream?

  4. Looks nice and most things work very intuitive. But the app crashes everytime I try to add a Foursquare account or switch to the third column (btw. what is in that column?) on my HTC Desire. Does anyone else have this problem?

Sebi: I have the same problem with my HTC Hero. Impossible to add FS-account
