After a very, very exciting Sunday afternoon which saw the FroYo Android 2.2 update arrive simultaneously for unlocked HTC Desires across much of Europe and Asia, HTC has today put up official confirmation of the over-the-air update on its European support site (click on “Others” in the second dropdown menu to see it, as direct links don’t seem to work).
For those of you who won’t believe something until it’s on an HTC.com web site, here’s your confirmation:
Update – HTC Desire Android 2.2 Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) update
You can now download the latest software update for new features and improved performance. It won’t delete any of your content and we’d recommend using a Wi-Fi connection as this is a large update. If not, standard data connection charges may apply. Any questions? Contact us via www.htc.com. After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Firmware version (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Firmware version). The new Firmware version will be 2.2.
Update Information: Android 2.2 and HTC Sense update
Note: We still recommend you back up your all personal data first.
So that’s the end of that, at least it is if you’re using one of the many unlocked Desires sold through third-party retailers.
As for the branded network versions, T-Mobile says it’ll arrive in “September”, Vodafone says it’ll hit its branded Desires “as soon as possible” and Orange, O2 and the others are staying rather quiet. Hopefully we’ll start to get some proper timelines out of the networks over the next few days.

/ October 19, 2010Really fucking pissed off with this shitty update. It has deleted ALL of my messages (>9000) and now I can’t send a single fucking text message. Wtf? UPDATES are supposed to IMPROVE things, not make perfectly functional things fucking useless. Now I have a useless phone and no way of fixing it. Thanks a fucking bundle android.
