HTC has been in touch to say the below is all a load of nonsense, and that the HTC Wildfire is still very much in stock across all networks and has not been recalled. Apologies to everyone for the mix-up.
Rumours and speculation abound! In a telephone conversation today, an unofficial T-Mobile source has claimed that the HTC Wildfire is not currently being sold due to a firmware problem with the handset.
This action was apparently taken after too many complaints were received that the handset was crashing intermittently.
It seems the ball is in HTC’s court to fix the problem before T-Mobile will offer them again. This may be limited to the T-Mobile version of the firmware (if it is a firmware problem) as the phone still seems to be available from other retailers, such as Vodafone.
The Wildfire is currently showing as “Out of stock” on T-Mobile’s web store.

/ July 29, 2010Interesting, I have that phone on that network and it has crashed once.
Apart from that it’s been faultless for about a month.

/ July 29, 2010Funny, there has been very little traffic regarding the Wildfire on the T-Mobile support forum

/ July 29, 2010I have been on the T-mobile upgrade waiting list for the Wildfire since 11 June and today was told the most concrete information since then; “The handset has been recalled (reason unknown) across all networks and isn’t likely to be available again until 15th August”. The HTC Desire also has a 2 week waiting list with T-Mobile so it wasn’t even worth me switching to my 2nd choice handset.

/ July 30, 2010I bought a Wildfire from CPW & it kept ‘force stop’ping.. dont know if this could be taken for crashing but done a bit of research & it turns out that PEEP can have an effect..on matters on the handset…HTC viewpoint, they advise clearing thwe cache of PEEP. I now use Android UI and have done away with HTC Sense.

/ July 30, 2010I got a HTC wildfire with orange and it has crashed twice and “force stops” all the time… i took it back to change it for another (got it through carphone W) and they changed it but didnt believe me when i told them about the t-mobile recall. Anyhoo, had the new one about 4 hours and it has already crashed once and come up with loads of “force stop” messages… going back tomorrow morning and demanding a different phone… its a shame cos i love this mobile so much!! =[
