QUICK! According to reader Matt, Orange UK has been firing out text messages to customers still backed up in a pre-order queue for its Black Edition HTC Desire – telling them the phone is now, once again, back in stock.
We’ve just had a look, and it is indeed listed as being in stock on Orange’s shopping site. By the time we’ve spell checked this update and pressed “upload” things may have changed, though, so ACT FAST.
Here’s Matt’s heads-up:
“The HTC Desire Black is back in stock at Orange. They had a delivery of 5,000 this morning but they are going fast. Existing customers who were on a waiting list received texts today at 9:14 and they showed as in-stock online shortly afterwards”
And look, here’s an HTC Desire without it’s sadly rather common “out of stock” disclaimer:
Imagine how many more people would be happily using Android 2.1 had HTC not spectacularly misjudged European demand for this thing.

@ Shu: Just checked the website and it’s still showing as in-stock. However there have been other times when the website shows in stock and then when you ring up Orange they say it’s a glitch and there isn’t actually any.

/ June 12, 2010I’m not at all happy with Orange! Their upgrade dept told me on Wed when I confirmed my upgrade terms that the phone would be with me the next day so I changed my plans accordingly. Having wasted a whole day waiting, I chased and was told the phone was out of stock at time of order and wouldn’t likely to back in stock for at least a week.
At the time, I was on the phone to Orange, their website (which still lists the Desire in brown not black) page showed no out of stock warnings. I can’t understand how this matches their commitment to “excellent customer service”.
