Online retailer Play has put up a listing for its SIM-free and unlocked variant of the HTC Wildfire, which it’s prepared to let you have for £229 including delivery. That’s a pretty good price for an HTC Android phone, even though the Wildfire’s specs are definitely on the “entry level” side of things.
The only downer is the release date – which Play says is now a distant July 26. Presumably that’s to give the major mobile networks a good few weeks to shift it on their lucrative contracts.
Still, £229 for a phone that you could tell someone is an HTC Desire looks pretty good to us. The only chink in the Wildfire’s armour is its display, which is a bafflingly low 240 x 320 resolution. There will be better low-cost Android phones to come this year.
