Vodafone 845 review: Initial setup and UI

We have acquired a Vodafone 845 Android phone, courtesy of… Vodafone. The new “entry level” Android phone, manufactured for Vodafone by Huawei, has just gone on sale in the UK, offering a very affordable entry into Android for the masses.

But it is any good? Let’s have a look.

So there we go. The 845 comes with Android 2.1 which has been customised slightly by Vodafone, which has pre-installed a few shortcuts on the Home screen to the more commonly used phone things. It’s not an overly-branded experience, and if you like red you’ll be happy.

A slightly skinned dialer, but nothing too heavy. You also get a selection of full-screen widgets pre-loaded on the other Home screens, along with an ENORMOUS clock/weather station. Let’s hope Vodafone cleared this with HTC’s legal people…

We’ll do a few more updates about the 845′s build quality and camera and whatnot over the next few days. If you have any burning questions about the phone and what it’s capable of or packing internally, drop us an email or ping us on Twitter or something.

We’ll answer any questions.

Please detail the screen responsiveness. I know it’s not capacitive but i need to know if it’s acceptable. Also, if you could test the GPS it would be nice :)

Using it to type this, Pedro. It’s a bit of a shocker going back to capacitive technology, put it that way. Typing speed chopped in half.

I put some pic & video samples here:

But no one can touch Techradar’s encyclopaedic approach to mobile reviewing. I yield to their power.
