Samsung hoping to double its smartphone market share – thanks to the Galaxy S

In a report in Business Week yesterday, Samsung’s senior vice president is reported as saying the company wants to DOUBLE its smartphone sales between now and Q4 of this year – and the warm reception given to the Galaxy S is one of the main reasons for the positivity.

Lee Donjoo, the SVP of Samsung’s mobile comms division, said “The market response to the Galaxy S from Europe is good” and also went on to officially confirm the existence of the bizarrely-leaked Samsung Galaxy Tab – which he said will begin to arrive in Q3.

If Samsung does double its smartphone market share, it’ll leapfrog HTC in terms of global user numbers.

Basically, putting Android into something with a huge, bright screen is a guaranteed WIN. Good luck, Samsung. We’ll pretend to have forgotten about all the poor Galaxy i7500 owners and their Android 1.5 woes.
