Crikey, turns out the IBM Seer Wimbledon app is actually quite an impressive piece of kit, and not the mobile advertising brand publicity nightmare we were imagining it to be.
The ‘augmented reality’ Wimbledon Android app has been updated just in time for this year’s grunting festival, promising to give users in attendance all the best bits of Wimbledon 2010 on their Android phones. And this is what you get – maps, schedules, an event radio, shopping directory and much more.
Looking rather professional, too:
It’s… actually good! We’re using it at home, on wi-fi, where the Wimbledon radio stations work perfectly well as you might expect, so user experiences may vary out in the field.
We can imagine it’s rather useful having a map of the place if you’re not a regular, although we suspect batteries will struggle to get through an entire day running an AR application – so you might want to pack yourself a kit bag full of spare batteries of you’re going to try actually using this at the event.
