Swype Beta alternate keyboard for Android now available to all

Swype, the alternate, line-drawing keyboard for Android that comes pre-installed on quite a few Android phones these days, is now available for download for everyone – for a limited period. And with a few of its features restricted. Great!

It’s not on the Android Market, though – it’s a direct download only from the maker. Here’s what you’ll get:

If you’re keen on trying it and haven’t already got it on your phone, head off over to the Swype Beta site and give it a go. We didn’t like it, to be brutally honest. A bit too fiddly, and requires too much learning from our tired old brains.

  1. You guys are kidding right about not liking it? It’s so intuitive and my typing speed has increased almost threefold. Can’t see how this has not been introduced sooner!

It just made no sense to me. The fact that it was a bit jerky on my Magic didn’t help, either. And I didn’t like the way it handled words that weren’t in the dictionary.

But it’s on my Big List of ‘Things to Give Another Go’ at some time in the future though, you might be pleased to hear, seeing as everyone’s raving about it now.

So for those of us using ShapeWriter at the moment is there a reason to choose this?
