NEW APP: SongDNA arrives on Android

The Android version of music & charts facts app SongDNA went live on the Android Market yesterday, bringing its unique, yellowy take on music history to Android. The app aggregates data about music tracks from numerous sources, bundling it all together into a simple page for your consumption.

Here’s a quick explanation of what it is and how it works, courtesy of the maker:

“SongDNA’s aim is to be your source for song information. It collects data on any song from more than seven sources on the internet: the videos, the bio, the highest rank in the charts and more! The app is fully functional, ad-based donate-ware. And if one donates above the threshold (currently $2), the app runs ad-free!”

And here are a couple of screenshots of Android SongDNA we’ve just taken that accurately reflect the sort of thing we listen to while writing all this nonsense:

Nice, just please don’t use it to cheat at pub quizzes. Here’s a QR code for it, if you’re reading this in a pub toilet and desperate to find out which song kept Pulp’s ‘Common People’ off the UK #1 spot in 1995*:

*It was ‘Robson & Jerome’ with their dirge-like cover version of ‘Unchained Melody’.
