American data compiler the NPD has reported that sales of Android-powered smartphones accounted for 28 percent of total new smartphone sales during the first quarter of 2010, with Apple’s iPhone only managing to capture a 21 percent market share.
But Android is not #1 yet – BlackBerry phones are still the market leading devices in North America, capturing 36 percent of the market during the first three months of 2010.
