Cherrypal, which makes ultra-affordable, low-spec PCs to sell mainly to “developing markets” has revealed its latest model – the $99 Cherrypal Asia, running Android 1.6 rather than the company’s previous machines’ Linux.
The laptop’s specs are astonishingly modest, even for something at the very bottom end of the portable computer market. Cherrypal Asia has a 7″ screen, 533MHz ARM A9 processor, a modest 256MB of RAM and 2GB of solid-state storage, plus three USB slots. Sounds rather basic, but then it’s only $99.
It’s virtually disposable. And here it is:
If you can rustle up an extra $50 of loose change you can upgrade that screen to a 10.1″ widescreen version with a 1.3megapixel camera stuffed in the lid. Read all about it here.
