Android 2.2 roll-out for Nexus One confirmed – everyone happy so far

Oh yes, the PENDULUM of POWER has swung back toward Nexus One owners this week, after a period of non-stop HTC-branded phone mania – thanks to the arrival of Google’s Android 2.2 update for the Google phone.

The Android 2.2 upgrade is definitely being rolled out right now, despite some laughable claims that renowned global news force TechCrunch “lied” or somehow faked yesterday’s news, while the “FroYo” upgrade is also available for direct download if you literally CANNOT WAIT A SECOND LONGER.

Android blog Phandroid has a manual-install guide up, if you’re living outside of the major US conurbations and yet to get the update notification through your network, and we’d strongly suspect the download will work on your UK Nexus One – seeing as they’re all sold unlocked and region free.

Even the bloke at LevelUp Studio has his Android 2.2 and is reporting via his Twitter account that “even the loading animations” are “way faster” thanks to FroYo’s powers.

You hear that, HTC Desire owners? You’re second-class citizens already!

  1. Yeah, this has made me question whether to actually go for the desire I was planning to get come upgrade time.

I think if HTC can push out 2.2 for the Desire pretty soon then I won’t mind.

I heard you can put the senseUI on a Nexus One with a bit of hackery, would that be possible with 2.2, or would you need to wait for 2.2 to come out for the Desire?

If the exchange rate wasn’t such a disaster I’d definitely pick up a SIM-free Nexus just for fun. Can’t really justify it when $529 equals £365 though.

No idea about your hackery plans. Is the Sense UI really that good?

Won’t work with the stock UK or the AT&T versions. Guess we have to wait for those updates like the poor Desire owners :D

I had no idea there was a difference between the ones Google sold direct and the ones stocked by the UK networks. I thought it was part of Google’s mantra that they all had to be sold unlocked and to the same spec?

Well, there is a difference between the AT&T and T-Mobile’s 3G modems, they work on different frequencies. Not sure if the UK is different from the AT&T, but i’ve seen on the net people complaining the manual update returns an error.

That specific update was FRF50-from-ERE27, so it works only if you have the ERE27 build number – the latest (2.1 update 1) for N1 T-Mobile. My build number, latest 2.1 update 1 AT&T version, is EPE54B. People on Rogers in Canada have the same 3G modem/build.

The people with unlocked bootloaders can flash the ERE27 ROM and then update, seems it’s not a driver difference, but just a digital signature problem. But i’m not about to risk voiding my warranty for now.

Anyway, for people that can update, there’s a much simpler way to get the update than doing it manually: just dial *#*#2432546#*#* to force check for updates.

    * if you download on windows OS, rename the file just “update”.

    * after the the exclamation mark with the android just press the “Power” and “Volume Up” buttons( i counted 3 seconds before releasing, be patient here)

i hope updating now wont have any bad effect on my N1 because am NOT from the US… ty

some applications suddenly were not working well like handcent and HTC_IME is that normal? ty
