Steve Jobs: Apple's iPad offers the world "Freedom from porn"

He’s at it again! We’ve already featured two recent instances of Steve Jobs bizarrely ranting about porn on Android and how Apple’s strict approach is the best for ALL MANKIND, and now he’s at it again – this time claiming that iPad offers us “freedom from porn”.

The quote comes from a bizarre email exchange with Gawker employee Ryan Tate, in which Jobs once again singled out the lack of “porn” on Apple products as one of his company’s biggest selling points.

Here are the words from upon high:

steve jobs freedom porn

Just drop the weird “no porn” angle, Steve. It doesn’t make any sense and is only serving to make you look like a ranting old man who has lost touch with the modern world. Be sure the read the entire thread over at Gawker. It’s mad. And Steve’s going mad, too.

Except he’s not going mad, is he? The model that Apple has chosen (rightly or wrongly) means that Apple goes into partnership with developers to distribute their application. Apple has every right to decide what content it wants to be associated with. ‘No porn’ on the Apple app store is not an unreasonable position. Personal attacks on Steve Jobs do not help the Android cause, hopefully the advantages of the platform will speak for themselves. Let’s drop the playground stuff.

@Brain , steve jobs gave you your iphone/ipad , he manages your app store .. so he technically owns you :D
thank you , but I wanna still own myself

on another note , if he doesn’t want porn on his device and the ppl who uses it are fine with that , then I don’t care .. but stop mentioning it in everything >_>

@JiMMaR, I don’t have an iPhone/iPad. I have the HTC Desire. No one owns me. I believe in the Android model. I just don’t believe that belittling Apple’s CEO pushes our platform forward. The Gawker comments are being overplayed to excite the fanbois. I guess you fall into that category.

I agree with Brian. I think the play ground antics should stop. Porn, whether you agree or not, is not a healthy behavior. Steve can speak his position all he wants. It is either going to hurt or help his cause. And believe it or not, in the US, there are more people who agree with Steve’s stance on porn than against.

You are all pompous prudes. There is nothing wrong/unhealthy about porn or sex. Everybody has sex all the time and act like their ashamed of it or something.

Porn is NOT unhealthy. Porn is a healthy way to release stress and stimulate your mind. Like all things, enjoy it in moderation.

Apple do have the right to distribute what they want however a good business model is to give the people what they want, not holding millions of fans by the balls and dictating the terms.

  6. I don’t think porn should be the (only) issue here. Jobs is clearly citing his position on what he believes “freedom” is — and actually calls out those who disagree, to be PC users.

  7. I think it’s hilarious that the app store limits porn when there is a browser that gives you access to hundreds and hundreds of sites with all the porn in the world. Some sites, like PinkVisualPad are specifically made for the iPad with no app store necessary, so what exactly is Apple accomplishing here with their censorship?
