Play.com RAISES its HTC Desire price by £20 – now £419

We never thought we’d see the day that consumer electronics go UP in price, but the HTC Desire has set this very odd trend in motion – due to the clearly still-ongoing STOCK CRISIS that’s affecting the much-wanted Android phone.

Monthly contract prices are going up across all major networks, and so are the SIM-free costs – popular online retailer Play.com has now UPPED its Desire price by £20, taking it up to £419 if you want an unlocked, multi-network phone.

Here’s the proof:

It was only a little over four weeks ago that Play dropped the Desire price to £399. If nothing else, it’s at least giving us things to write about on a Saturday evening.

bloody ‘ell! whens the next decent htc phone coming out? I’ve given up on getting a desire now, was guna get one on t-mobile £20 x 18months + £129 for handset, then that went up to £191 for handset, now to get that tariff the handset cost is £600! even the staff thought it was miss print and checked haha

I’m resigned to not updating my phone for another year, so I can gaze dispassionately upon this CARNAGE!

  3. I am glad I bought my HTC Desire before the price went up. Even managed to get cashback on my Play.com purchase. Recommend anyone else looking to buy from Play to do this (should be able to get it back under £400).

Play aren’t the only company doing this – Handtec actually have pages for the HTC Desire – one page promises a cheaper phone but a waiting time!

Guess it is just supply and demand in action though since most online stores are only taking pre-orders. Even the price on eBay is rocketing (there is one on there which has been used for a few weeks and yet is at £350 with over 12 hours still to go!).
