Just four months after launching its direct-selling Android phone online superstore amid a dazzling blaze of online hype, Google has today announced the closure of its direct-to-you mobile phone shop.
Here’s how Google revealed the end of its globe-spanning retail dream earlier today:
“While the global adoption of the Android platform has exceeded our expectations, the web store has not. It’s remained a niche channel for early adopters, but it’s clear that many customers like a hands-on experience before buying a phone, and they also want a wide range of service plans to chose from”
Sending them out around the globe via courier was always going to be a difficult strategy to pull off, even for the Mighty Google.

If you were one of the few who bought a Nexus One direct from Google, congratulations – you were part of a small but sadly ultimately doomed experiment. Link via TechCrunch.
