Wow, D-Day has finally arrived, with the long-awaited Android version of the new Dropbox app finally appearing for download in the Android Market. Announced last night on the Dropbox Blog, it’s actually here. We shall hereafter refer to this time period as the Post Dropbox era.
Here’s the official description:
“The Dropbox Android application syncs mobile device online and to your other computers. Now you can browse the files in your Dropbox folder from anywhere! Share links to files with your friends, save photos and video from your camera to your computers, and even open files using any of your favorite Android apps”
And here are a few grabs we’ve just taken of Dropbox, sitting happily on our HTC Magic and all connected to the MOTHER BRAIN:
It works. That’s it. Editing a TXT file on Android pops up a dialogue box asking how you want to edit the doc, then Dropbox auto-updates the synced file on your desktop when you save and quit. It’s the Dropbox dream. Possibly a bit light on jazzy new features, and some people are already moaning about the lack of auto-syncing options, but it does the job as far as we’re concerned.

/ May 8, 2010I find the app disappointing. Was expecting ability to eg have my whole camera pictures folder synchronized to dropbox so any photos I take would immediately be available on my laptop. Or my selected music files synchronized from laptop to phone, it could completely remove necessity to connect via usb to move files but sadly fails. Instead seems to give me essentially same ability as a mobile webpage to view files already in my dropbox.
