A few screenshots of Android Skyfire 2.0 in action

Seeing as Skyfire has just gone live for download, here’s a little visual journey of our first few minutes fiddling with the new alternate Android browser. It has a very pretty interface and modern feel thanks to the “SkyBar” sharing and video functionality, that’s the only opinion we’ve formed thus far:

The server-side Flash video encoding and playback system nearly works, but we’re yet to get past the 25% mark on this custom screen that comes up when you click on an embedded YouTube video pop-up.

Maybe a few more levers and buttons need to be pressed backstage to get the server fully operational, seeing as the app’s only just launched?

Basically, Skyfire 2.0 works fine, the on-screen menu system is slick and tabbed browsing is handled superbly well – but it does feel a little slower than the standard Android browser we’re used to. No doubt if you’re using an Android phone with a little more POWER than our sadly antiquated HTC Magic it’ll all move along a bit quicker.

We’ll stick with it, that’s for sure. Skyfire should be showing up for you in the Android Market right now, or you can get it direct.

  1. Aye, I’m getting that annoying 25% glitch too.
