In a message posted this lunch time on its UK support forum, Vodafone confirmed that it’s STILL all out of stock of the HTC Desire – both for customers ordering through its web site and for the more outgoing chancers who fancy trying to blag upgrades over the phone.
Here’s today’s update on the situation, which was posted at 1.19pm:
Just to give you an update; as this phone is currently out-of-stock online we’d like to provide you with reassurance of when it’ll be available next.

And here’s the cheeky little monster that’s causing all the fuss:
The breakdown of the stock news into “phone” and “online” levels is due to the odd way Vodafone does things. The company treats its online and telephone departments as separate divisions, supplying both with their own individual stocks. Which is why getting a straight answer to a stock question resembles trying to get blood out of a stone.
We should all, once again, praise the lord that we’re not doing a shift in a Vodafone call centre this weekend. Imagine the RAGE of those being told they have to wait three more days for their new telephone.
