Orange ‘Boston’ Android phone revealed – Android 1.6, 5megapixel camera, tidy white plastic

We’ve finally tracked down a few shots of the Orange ‘Boston’ Android phone, which was mentioned on the internet last week in several European news reports – but no one had any photos. And we HATE doing news without photos.

The initial reports claimed Boston would launch for the headline-grabbing price of “one euro” on Orange across Europe – but obviously it’ll depend on contracts and top-ups and what have you to keep it alive and working going forward.

Here it is:

Boston is believed to be designed and built for Orange by manufacturer Foxconn. Hopefully we’ll get an official announcement from Orange in the near future with the dates and money details, as with a 3.2″ screen and super-cheap price tag it could be a serious contender at the “mass” end of the smartphones market.

The specs:

- 3.2″ screen at 480 x 320

- Wi-Fi 802.11b/g

- Qualcomm 600MHz processor

- 256MB RAM

- Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR

- GPS

- microSD

- 5megapixel camera

- Android 1.6

  1. That’s easier on the eye than I’d thought it would be to be honest. Not a bad effort at all. I wonder what sort of plans (if any) Orange/Foxconn have for updating the OS on the thing?

It looks worryingly similar to my Magic. I don’t want people to think I’m using a bloody Orange Boston :(

  3. The name does sound like something you’d order at a hotel lounge: “I’ll have an Orange Boston, hold the twist.”

  4. thanks for the Boston Android phone news,How about the price would be?

It’s out for ordering already? Where do you live, Tuppney? It’s not on Orange UK’s site as yet.

I live in Spain. I have now got it! Only had it since Thursday but am so far VERY pleased with it. My contract was due to finish so chose it as a free upgrade along with a tarif of 12€ per month for unlimited Internet access. Elegant looking phone with good applications, very easy to use. Would recommend it if you want all the latest features and good value for money. All I need now is to know where I can get some accessories for it from e.g. car charger, silicone skin etc. If anyone has any recommendations please let me know?

I live in Spain and got one last thursday. I find the keyboard small a for a mans fingers and the battery quickly runs down otherwise its just ok, nothing spectacular.

Everything’s a bit small for “mans fingers”.

There’s no way my granddad would be able to use a modern phone, his hands were MASSIVE.

Thank you, and they deliver to Spain!

I have bought a car charger from the Orange shop (In England) and found a cool case to fit in a shop near where I live. I have found that most iPhone cases are suitable.

Have now had the phone for nearly 2 months and am loving it still. Although have noticed that it has the same problem as the new iPhone in that if you have you hand over the bottom left hand corner while talking it reduces the signal. I soon got to used to holding it a better way though and it works superbly!

I had problems with the small keyboard too but if you turn it sideways it is bigger and you soon get used to it, even with Shrek fingers.

Does anyone know what is the maximum video resolution for the camcorder and if the GPS works good? And also, can the camera flash light be used like a small torch? Thanks.

      Hi bdansilviu

I have used the Google maps app and it works fine. I also tend to use the Navigation app as a GPS and again it is fine (specially as we live in the middle of nowhere).

I have the flashlight app (free) and use it every Friday night as a torch when walking back from the, dare I say it pub. It is not a laser but lights the way enough to see where we are going and more importantly for people to see us.

Do you mean silicone skin or just a case?

I haven’t managed to find silicone skin but have found that nearly ALL iPhone cases are suitable. These can be bought from almost anywhere but there is quite a nice Samsonite one on the website that Chris quotes in a previous post.
