Online retailer Play’s been advertising and taking pre-orders for the HTC Desire for ages – but has this weekend hacked a sizeable chunk off the RRP prior to its release, taking the price of an unlocked and SIM-free HTC Desire down to £399 and beneath that psychological £400 barrier.
There’s a slight catch – Play’s saying the phone is “Due for release” on April 16, which, at time of writing, means a torturous FIVE DAY WAIT if it can stick to that date. Here’s visual confirmation:
The last time we checked Play’s pricing was back in early March – when it was asking £439 for an unlocked Desire. Presumably people who pre-ordered at that higher price will only be charged the new and lower RRP.
This now makes Play’s unlocked HTC Legend look a bit pricier in comparison, with Play still wanting £369 for the 3.2″ metal-bodied beauty.

/ April 11, 2010You can get it on PAYG on vodaphone for £348.99 here:

But it is unlocked and unbranded. Exactly the same as the sim free version, but in a Vodaphone box, and with PAYG sim.
