SIM-free HTC Desire shipments delayed until next week

It looks like everyone has SERIOUSLY underestimated European demand for the HTC Desire, with HTC today telling independent retailer Clove it won’t be getting the SIM-free Desires it was expecting to start selling until next week.

We’d imagine this is to help HTC feed the RABID demand coming from Vodafone and T-Mobile customers, who all seem to be demanding upgrades to the newest Android phone as one. Here’s how Clove broke the news to its customers earlier today:

“…we have now been informed by HTC this morning that they are delaying shipments to all SIM-Free E-tailers until next week. This is very frustrating for both you and ourselves, having made so much effort in trying to ensure you receive your Desire as early as possible. The actual shipping date is yet to be confirmed, although HTC expect to start releasing stock on 13 April.

“Please be aware this is completely out of our control and will affect all other E-Tailers as well. We will continue to update you with as much information as we can”

And now, for the first time today, it’s the HTC Desire stock image!

On the actual item page for the Desire on Clove, it confidently claims this delay “AFFECTS ALL UK STOCK” adding, also in bold capital letters, that “NO RESELLER WILL RECIEVE SHIPMENTS ANY QUICKER”. So keep camping by your letterboxes, SIM-free Desire orderers. You might have a long wait.

I had my Desire delivered on Saturday.

I can honestly say that it is by far the best phone I have ever owned. The thing is so well put together I couldn’t be happier.

I do have two small gripes.

1/ Battery – With heavy use it wont see me through a day. Saying that, it could just be because its new I am using it constantly. Once I get to normal use it should last.

2/ Can’t play Divx video – But this should be fixed in a future update.

The only thing I can see slowing things down is the new iPhone. Apple will need to pull out something special though.

I think that’s a bit harsh, you three. I know we live in a time of constant fake sell-out stories, but there’s a genuine and almost Apple-like fever surrounding the Desire at the moment. I really think it has properly sold out and we’re not just being “played” here.

HTC don’t seem too bothered about customer service. Most of the carriers customers will be receiving the Desire as a ‘free’ upgrade and that takes precedence over fully paying, pre-ordered (way before most of them) customers?

    Screw HTC.

I thought this may have been down to software or hardware alterations/tweaking, which made the wait easier. But it isn’t – they’re just sending our orders out to those reseller companies offering ‘unbranded’ handsets. So that’s why they started doing that…

Totally agree with Alex. HTC have really let their customers down with this one. No doubt there’ll be further delays come next week!

Amazon seem the only ones now who are having trouble with their supplier. Got a message yesterday there was going to be further delays on shipment. All other sim-free retailers seem to be shipping what stock they have????
