Rhapsody launches Android streaming app – offline playback "coming soon"

Rhapsody has today taken its Android music app out of beta and launched the finished thing, bringing the ability to stream “over 9.5 million songs” to your Android phone.

Of course, music is not free, despite what you may have learned from the internet over the last decade – you’ll require a paid Rhapsody subscription to use the service, but there is a free seven day trial currently on offer for new joiners. Here’s the full Market sales pitch:

“Hear your old favorites or listen to the newest releases. The Rhapsody App makes it easy to tap into over 9 million songs from wherever you are. With a subscription, you can listen to anything and everything in the catalog–and offline playback coming soon. Download the beta today and try it FREE*.

*Trial for new customers.

Looks like this is a US-only launch at the moment, as was the beta test – Rhapsody’s not showing up for us on the Android Market. Go and leave an aggressive comment about this international oversight over on the official announcement blog post.

  1. I use Last.fm, it allows for scrobbling, it’s free and I’ve been using the browser version for ages, so my music library has gotten pretty large. The drawbacks are- there’s no offline mode and you can’t just pick and choose specific tracks to play on the Android version.
