UK network Three UK has just announced it’s stocking the Samsung Galaxy Portal – and its version of the middle-of-the-road Android phone will come pre-updated with the Eclair version of Android, AKA the much-desired Android 2.1 and all the enhancements it brings.
It’s a superb coup for Three UK – the Galaxy Portal is also being stocked by T-Mobile over here, but T’s version of Samsung’s latest Android phone is currently stuck with the default Android 1.5 it’s supplied with. And although Samsung has said it’ll bring 2.1 to the Portal, as it did with the Spica-badged overseas version, the update is yet to hit the UK.
Leaving Three UK sitting pretty with this:
Three currently has the black and white variants of the Galaxy Portal up on its ordering page, on tariffs for new customers starting at £20 per month. That’s a very good price for the Portal and Android 2.1 – the Portal’s a solid phone with a good 3.2″ capacitive screen, and the only thing holding back the T-Mobile version was its Android 1.5 status. Good work, Three.
And here’s the announcement, hot from Three today:
The Samsung Galaxy Portal is on 3
