Roewe 350 "Android car" coming to the UK – rebadged as the MG 4

We ignored the whole “Android car” news of the last week or two, thinking it’s bound to be little more than a gimmicky Android-powered media player stuffed into the dashboard of some bland Asian jelly mould in order to drum up a bit of internet hype for a mostly unknown car maker.

However, our interest was raised by the Birmingham Post yesterday, which says the Roewe 350 will be coming to the UK – with a prestigious “MG Motors” badge stuck on the front of it by MG’s Chinese owner SAIC, to trick people into thinking it’s something more than a rebranded Chinese flatpack auto.

The Euro-spec Roewe will also be assembled in the UK in the famed ex-Rover Longbridge plant in the Midlands. Hooray for that.

According to the Post’s car expert, the rebadged Roewe 350 will launch in Europe as the MG 4 and will be targeted at mid-range cars like the VW Golf, Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra. Whether it’ll contain anything more interesting than an Android-powered media player crudely rammed in the dash remains unknown.
