OFFICIALISED: Android Dropbox app confirmed – coming "within months"

The official Dropbox blog has just made the dream real – after this morning’s awkward false start, the official Android Dropbox app has finally been revealed.

But that’s only “revealed” and definitely not “launched” just yet, as the maker is simply showing off its current Android build – and telling the world it’ll be launching “for all flavors of Android within the next couple months”. Here’s the spec:

Access your Dropbox on the go – All the contents of your Dropbox are available for viewing. You can even stream music and movies in your Dropbox straight to your Android device.

Make edits to your files and sync them back to Dropbox – Any changes you make to your files will sync back up to your Dropbox.

Download files for offline viewing – Add files to ‘Favorites’ and they’ll be accessible at any time.

Upload files and sync them to your Dropbox – Take a photo, shoot a video, or upload some audio from your Android phone and email its public link to a friend in less than a minute.

Share links to files in your Dropbox – Yes! Any file in your Dropbox!

And here’s a look at the already rather polished-looking work-in-progress version of Android Dropbox:

Very pretty, plus it appears to include all the link-sharing, syncing and file uploading business that makes the home computer version ideal for bunging about large files between mates.

And it would appear to be very well integrated within the Android OS, popping up the option to “Share via Dropbox” to your phone’s menus. Looks great. Android Dropbox will launch officially, so they say, “within the next couple of months”.

  1. Great news ! I just upped my capacity by introducing some friends to the dropbox site, and was just thinking the other day it’d be nice if this was available on my phone as well.
