Dropbox for Android almost launches…

The overly-dry UK version of Wired magazine spotted something interesting this morning – an accidentally-published page entitled “The Dropbox Android App!” appeared on the official Dropbox blog, before being swiftly deleted again.

Wired captured an image of the headline through a cached copy of the page data distributed via its RSS feed:

So keep F5-ing the Dropbox site and Twitter account for announcements – an appearance of the simple-yet-indispensable personal file-sharing app on Android is clearly imminent.

  1. As a long time user of Jungle Disk for online back up and sync, I find dropbox much more user-friendly and intuitive and I have now replaced “My Documents” with “My Dropbox” in windows explorer, no need to have the two folders and drag files into the other.

It is a great tool. I’m not sure I’ll ever need or use an Android version, but it’s super having my laptop and desktop working TOGETHER AS ONE.

As an aside, when I started working as a writer in 1997, I remember thinking “Wouldn’t it be great if I could automatically sync the contents of my work and home PC folders?”

I even knocked up a personal routine of manually syncing a couple of folders via FTP every evening!

Has anyone else “invented” something in their minds long before someone else came along and commercialised it?
