Opera Mini 5 Beta now out for Android

Opera Mini 5 Beta is now up on the Android Market. It looks lovely and everything, but who really needs an overly-complex web browser these days? Here’s the official announcement, including the bizarre data-compressing claim that Opera loves to wheel out at times like these:

“Get a faster, more cost-efficient Web browsing experience. Use our powerful servers to compress data up to 90% before sending it to your phone, so page-loads are lightning-fast. Opera Mini is easy to use and Opera Link lets you synchronize data between your phone and computer. Try Opera Mini today, it is completely free.”

Get it now on the Android Market, or user the direct-download instructions on Opera’s site if you’re a power-user. Or have a BlackBerry or something that does Windows Mobile.

Thanks, but we’ll stick with our collection of RSS feeds and apps, if it’s all the same to you – the web is HISTORY on smartphones!
