We are sorry to have to break this to you, PDANet, but we have switched allegiances when it comes to our favourite Android tethering app. We now favour the mighty EasyTether, primarily because it’s free – and the free version of PDANet blocks HTTPS connections, rendering Hotmail and Twitter, amongst others, unusable without paying $29 for the full version.
Sorry, PDANet, but we are cheapskates.
We cannot find ANY images of EasyTether online, and can’t be bothered taking a photo of the screen at this time of night – so here’s a screen capture of the installation file on our laptop desktop:
EasyTether is simple. You get the app on your phone by searching for it in the Android Market, than get the PC drivers from developer Mobile Stream’s site. Then you start them both up and… as long as you’ve remembered to enable Debugging on your Android phone, it works.
We are literally typing this update on a laptop while connected using EasyTether via a Vodafone UK HTC Magic, while sitting in the bedroom of an elderly relative’s house. Poor old Grandad think we went to bed because we were tired, not because we wanted to go on the internet. Sorry PDANet, and sorry Grandad.
ATTENTION AMERICAN READERS:
Due to a complaint by T-Mobile, Google has removed all tethering apps from the US Android Market. That’s very naughty – and means you US readers won’t be able to find EasyTether listed. There’s a petition/campaign running on the Android Market (viewable online here), should you want to vent your anger.

/ February 23, 2010This is still just not good enough. I want my android phone to tether as a wireless hotspot for up to 5 devices, or 4 wireless devices and 1 wired. for free. and that just works.
I know I am not alone in this.
Someone, MAKE THIS APP. Please.
