This is a bit of a Mad Weekend Rumour(TM) that’s probably going to EXPLODE tonight because nobody important will be around to issue a denial until Monday, but Engadget and some impenetrable Chinese tech blog (via here) are claiming that THIS is Motorola’s next phone – and it’ll be branded the Nexus Two and, therefore, sold direct through Google’s Store alongside the N1.
Blimey.
Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha said only this week that Motorola would soon sell hardware through Google’s Shop, but this? And so soon? Clearly a lot of people would love to have Android 2.1 running on a device with a QWERTY keyboard, but it would surely anger DROID buyers to see a newer, slimmer version go on sale mere months after they cashed up for a DROID.
It also looks suspiciously like a high-concept artistic render, the sort of thing Stuff magazine would run in a “What we’d like our next phone to look like” feature. But we shall see. We shall hopefully see when someone from Motorola arrives in the office on Monday and issues a firm denial.
