The best Android games #5: Flight Director

Another absolute blinder of a game, Flight Director suits touchscreen play perfectly. We’re so glad we embarked upon this personal journey to play all the new and old-but highly-thought-of games on the Android Market, as it turns out there are some right GEMS out there among the Michael Quach offerings.

Here’s a very dull screenshot of the menu screen, as we can’t find any good ones of the game itself – or even a blog/site/Twitter of the maker.

We nearly didn’t bother downloading Flight Director, though, as it sounds ominously like it’s going to be a flight sim and there’s NO WAY a flight sim would work on Android. But it’s not – Flight Director’s a 2D puzzle game where you have to organise the flight plans of planes and choppers, as they circle through the air around layouts of real airports, with players stacking them up and angering the (imaginary) passengers by chucking Flight 207 into a low-level loop around the airport, making everyone miss their connections to Amsterdam.

That is at least what the game looks like, inset onto the Help screen there.

If you like Pushing Tin, you’ll like this. Brilliant game, and another contender for ones we’re actually going to pay for. Free demo Flight Director LITE lets you play each map until you hit a time limit, so is a great introduction to its delights. Again, we’re hoping someone might pop up with a link to developer Camel Games, so we can say “hello” and “thanks” and “well done”.

The screens on most Windows Mobile devices are rubbish so couldn’t do a game like this. Plus its a dying platform so there unlikely to bother. Time to ditch it and upgrade to a more modern phone OS me thinks.

I see NO REASON why a real flight sim wouldn’t work on Android phones. In case you haven’t seen it, there are bluetooth joysticks for phone gamers. They kinda look like a really small Wii nunchuk controller. I love the Droid stuff. so, I hope they start porting over or creating some great software for pilots.

    Cool game above BTW.
