Crikey, stat counter Flurry has told MobileCrunch that app downloads through the Android Market grew by an astonishing 22% between November and December, helped by incredibly large numbers of Motorola DROID users idly browsing for apps on their new mobiles on Christmas Day.
Here’s a chart. Ignore the bit about Apple’s App Store growing even faster.
The data covers “total downloads” rather than “sales” so don’t go reading too much into the numbers. This could simply mean that Apple users are hooked on downloading and deleting things.
Flurry also broke down Android Market activity by handset, showing that Motorola’s DROID has taken an astonishingly huge share of the Android scene since its US launch – and has grown more since AdMob revealed its market share data earlier in December. 49% of ALL Android Market app sales on Christmas day were made using Motorola’s DROID phone, a quite superb WIN for the once-struggling mobile company.
