Android 2.1 spotted in the wild (AKA on the internet)

Google continues to LEAK LIKE A SIEVE this week with yet more Google Phone / Nexus One internals getting exposed way before time. Engadget is reporting that the Nexus One’s build of Android 2.1 has already been ripped from the phone and stuck online, with “hackers” apparently getting the updated OS running on Motorola’s horrible old Milestone/DROID.

Here are a few shots of Android 2.1. Looks about the same as Android Every.Other.Version but of particular note is that desktop image. Isn’t it lovely? Wonder if it comes with that as standard or if it’s an “after market” custom job?

Good to see the camera getting an upgrade. The Android camera is by far the system’s weakest feature. We shouldn’t have to download third-party camera apps in order to get it to work properly.

About the same, give or take. Do those blurry top squares on the right-hand image suggest you can finger-spin the apps screen up and down? Or it it just a design feature of that background?

And that digital clock is AMAZING. If Google brings that clock to market we’ll be lining up for one three days before it goes on sale, in a sleeping bag, on the pavement, waiting. We’ll even pay cash, if they’ll do us a deal on the VAT.
